Hi, ive recently started riding Epping and we ride for around 3 hours.

So far every single ride has been muddy, so ive used these two tyres for every ride.

Kenda Blue Groove 2.1 - Front

http://www.mtbr.com/cat/tires-and-wheel ... 51crx.aspx

Kenda Nevegal 2.1 - Rear

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... dtc-33001/

They give me plenty of grip, and i have never felt as if i needed more grip while using them. I run them at quite a high tyre pressure too. Around 30 PSI. (Not the best with a full rigid bike) At the start of the ride the rolling resistance isnt a problem, but towards the end of the rides i could do with a bit less of a draggy tire.

And i keep bogging down in thick mud and have to walk out. So im thinking i should go for something thinner to sort of slice into the mud and get to the bottom and grip it?

The compromise im looking for is: Something that doesnt have me wheelspinning everywhere, but doesnt have loads of rolling resistance. It probably sounds like a tyre that doesnt exist...

Budget is around £20 but could possibly stretch it.

Im choosing between these so far:

Maxxis Beaver: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxx ... -prod76059

Continental Explorer (Well below budget): http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cont ... -prod18894

Panaracer Fire XC Pro (They come in red too) But a bit over budget  http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/pana ... -prod54056

Maxxis Medusa: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/maxx ... -prod78375

I have read that the Bontrager Mud Xs are good, but are out of my budget. Anyone have any suggestions from the ones above or any other tyres?

Thanks!

Hi, i recently purchased Maxxis Beaver 26" 2.0, they really good fast and light tyres, however they are not ideal for my full suspension bike. Have ridden them in epping ones for around 10 miles. If you are interested i will sell them for £30 both. Let me know. Thx.

Thanks for the offer mate, much appreciated, but i think ive made up my mind finally :)

I think ive decided on going for the 1.75 Continental Explorers. Tenner each on CRC. Should be good in the mud but not draggy. Just what im looking for.

The tread looks promising

And the money i saved can be spent on getting a lightweight tube for the rear, and take the Tescos tube and keep it as a spare in my back pack.

That still leaves me another £15 to do whatever with. Maybe get another tube for the front too and have two spares. And spend the tenner on some Halo allen key skewers. :)

Personaly i wouldn't go less than 2.0. Bigger volume sticks better on roots and lets u run lower pressure. I used to run 2.35 front and 2.1 rear, kenda K.O.T., they stick awesome, however rolling resistance was mental.
I swapped front for high roller II up front, and its kinda ok, confident downhill and rolls ok-ish.
I had those beavers 2.0 for one ride and found myself 7x in mud :)
Maybe bad riding skills

Quite good website for tires is also here: http://nextdaytyres.co.uk

Good choice, nice and fast, enough grip.

Just watch those roots.

I have got a couple of Medusa's for my Marin and they work well. I am going to keep hold of them though but can recommend them.

My Giant came with Nobby Nic's and they did not let me down once last weekend.

Hi, it looks like i can't pm you. Message is stuck in outbox.

Here is replay:
Hi, yeah sure mate... i think you will be better off with 2.0 beavers than 1.75 cont... they really quick and light.... as i said only reason I'm selling them is that 2.0 is to small for my riding style :)
Let me know if you want them. Ta

I have just picked up some Tail Kings in 2.2 for my 29er and they seem like a good do it tyre.

What is a decent grippy tire but offers some puncture protection doesn't matter if they are a few bob?
Cheers.

Black sharks have good puncture protection, and you can get them for real bargain. Good for mud.
