Anyone going for some xc riding at Aston Hills on 15th Feb.?
I'm planning to check it out and get a few laps in. Figure it'll be good to do a couple of laps at "race effort" before any actual racing this year! :)
Anyone know what the trail condition is like?

Hey mate, have you riden them before?
Last rode the xc trials there in December, actually holds up to the wet weather quite well compared to most forests really. Mainly down to it being so rooty and chalky/flinty ground. But obviously this makes it real slippy for the majority of it.
Some tough steep climbs in the wet but a real leg tester!

Hi Jim

Thanks for the info.
Roots, eh!? I bloody hate roots!! Might be ok with a f/s but I'll be on a steel h/t.

I've not rode there before. Just figured it looks good for a measured and dedicated training loop. I've run around Wendover a lot, though, so know what you mean about the chalk and slipperiness of it!
The climbs sound good - maybe I'll need to fit that granny ring back on as I'm currently running a 1x9 (33T to a 12-36) set-up.

Yeah roots all over the place!
Its a good test of fitness, I had to use the granny ring a few times on the climbs overthere.

Good info - thanks.
Will fit my new 22T this weekend. With a 22 - 36 option I should be able to get up almost anything... *should*! ;-)

I was thinking about going there yesterday but eventually skipped because of weather conditions. I am ready to go if forecast will look more positive with rain and winds. I'm guessing it will be muddy and full of slippery roots of course, it's Aston hill.

Hmmm...having been out of action (am still) with a chest infection for the last week and a bit, I'm not sure "like glass" is what I'll be looking for after a couple of weekends of not riding. Might just stay local and settle for "like swamp"! :).

When I'm looking outside the window now, what you have written UltraHound seems very reasonable. It's so freaking wet last 2 weeks. I hope it won't flood London :| better stay local and be ready for the trails in better condition soon

Yes, it's pretty bad here (Enfield) and even the dogs are reluctant to go out!!
