Post subject: 38t chainring on slx triple

I need some help with my crank and chainrings.

I have a 10 speed slx m670 triple crankset, i have removed the outer 42T and fitted a bash guard.
The plan has always been to remove the 32T middle ring and put a 38t on instead.

First question. Is the 38T from the double crankset meant to fit in place of the middle ring on the triple as i have been lead to believe?

Second question. The 38T has a pin similar to the one on the 42T on the triple that sits behind the crank arm. This is preventing the ring from sitting flush because of the bash. Can the pin be removed?

Thanks in advance

If you intend to use the granny ring too you may struggle to get it to shift.

if you intend to just use one ring then you would be best off with a singlespeed ring, preferably a narrow wide type

Ok am I missing something then?

The 24t granny on the triple is the same ring used on the double 38t/24t. I have bought the correct 38t to match this.

It looks to line up ok with out the bash but would rather get comformation before trashing a £20 ring. Would of prefered a 36 but they dont do one, although the shimano website does have a 26,36,46 triple listed

Have you looked at middleburn rings they do a ramped ring

I didn't consider a 24t i wrongly presumed a 22t

I run double & bash 32&24 with 11-36 block! will run a narrow-wide ring soon tho! you can contract Middleburn direct (their very helpful)

Have been running a 32t but because I do a lot of gravel track/tarmac path stretches its slightly lacking. Went out on a group ride a few months back and despite having a higher cadence in top gear was getting left behind on the flat to people running triples or 36/38t. Having said that i have used the ratio calculator and there is little in it.

Anyway bit the bullet and removed the pin, its all mounted correctly so just got to fit to the bike and test it.
