Hi all!

Anyone running a raceface type X BB? A while back I noticed slight play on the drive side, so ordered up new bearings from CRC ( original ) popped out yesterday & noticed about 2mm play when you turn the crank in a certain position!
Unnoticeable when riding & nice and smooth! Is this normal as they have a plastic cap which acts as a shim once the crack arm is fitted! ( also replaced).

Did a quick search & they have mixed reviews!

I'm going to go with... that doesn't sound right regardless of what make / type crank.

Do you get the same 2mm movement with the cranks turned through 180 degrees from the first position .... maybe something is a bit 'oval' rather than 100% round?

Yep think I will have a measure up tomorrow mate! Possibly one of the cups isn't 100% true? I never really noticed it until I stripped The BB down at the start of spring! Don't like the plastic bearing caps , very flimsy and the fact that they act as shims to space out the hollow shaft! Run a Hope BB before & was all good!

Ok so just gave it a quick pull & you can fell the play in any position, just a little difficult to extract the play but is about 2mm on driveside ! But you still have to give it a good tug tho so maybe raceface bearings ain't to clever?!!

I had a quick google earlier today and I think that might be to do with the spacers. I think you get wear on the splines that the crank arm sits on so that when you tighten it up you're still left with a bit of movement...

This was the thread on STW I found.... http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/how-to-adjust-play-in-raceface-crankset-bb

Might be a similar issue?

Martin that looks spot on mate, did a quick breeze through I have ordered a new crack arm seal & shim kit £5.00, it does say in small print that slight play can be expected ! so will try! it says the main concern was not crushing the bearings!
