Hello all, I've just changed my car and was looking to buy a saris bones bike carrier. the thing that got me thinking is I don't know if my bike will fit.
I've got a Scott spark 730 and don't know if the rear shock will be in the way of the arm of the bike carrier going through the frame and securing my bike to it.

I don't think it will fit, you will have to buy a new bike

I think if you really wanted to use a saris carrier you could either put one of the leg through the rear swing arm between the tire and seat tube and then half way along the top tube(though i think the front wheel would have to come off so it does not hit the floor. The other option is to buy a clamp (don't know who manufacturers them, have a look at other bike carrier companies) that goes between the stem to the under side of the seat. Only other issue would be to make sure the dropper post is fully extended other wise you could damage it

Ive been looking at the adapters and saris do their own one. I was thinking about clamping one end under the stem and then clamping the other end around the frame just under the seat clamp then there should be no interference with the dropper.
the only other problem is how low the bike will sit once on the rack I think the carrier is adjustable but by how much I don't know ill have to do a bit of research.

I have the same issue with my bike and my Saris Bones rack. If your near Chelmsford your welcome to try mine...

Ive been looking at pictures of different bikes fitted to the rack.
it seems when the bike beam is fitted to the underside of the stem and under side of the saddle the bike sits level on the rack but I am going to fit it to the stem and the frame just under the seat clamp so it don't interfere with the dropper but this ( I think but not to sure ) will make the front of the bike sit a bit lower so I may have to remove the front wheel when using the rack but that aint no biggie.
The other thing I was thinking about is to buy the 3 bike option as the clamps are different heights so should give me the option of sitting the bike higher on the rack giving me a bit more clearance from the floor well that's my theory anyway.
What do people think???

I own a 3 bike rack and have an awkward shaped frame also.

I would not recommend the rack for your bike.

Not only do you have the issue of using the extra bar to get it to hang on it but also you have to consider the vertical clamp on these racks.

On the 3 bike ones it makes it very difficult to mount anything other than a traditionally shaped frame further in than the last mount.

If it were me i would explore using a tow bar mount or a roof mount.

I have a Red 3 bike Saris Bones sitting in the garage which I can't use as it won't play nice with the spoiler on my new car.

I should probably take some photos and put it up for sale!

Thanks for the reply nwmlarge. I was looking at getting a tow bar fitted etc. but thought this would be the easier option but is turning into a right pain in the a**e.

Ive seen a few more pics of bikes fitted to the rack with one of the arms fitted through the rear triangle between the wheel and seat tube and one arm under the top tube with a lots of straps securing it which was suggested on here in a previous post.

I do also own a 2010 specialized Epic which ( i think ) would be slightly better suited to the rack so that could become my main bike until I start researching about a tow bar etc
or I could squeeze myself into some lycra and become a roadie

Where are you based nwmlarge? and if you don't mind I could come and try the epic on it and if all good might have the saris off you.
