Been looking at the tires some of you recommend to me. Can you explain about width please, my wheels are 27.5 x 2.2 as are my tires. How much can you deviate from the wheel width? Confused.

Your wheels arent 2.2. thats tyre width.

inner width of the wheels can be measured with a vernier (or looked up online) what wheels are they?

I have run all sorts of tyres for all sorts of conditions, depending of what you're after effect the overall decision.

What frame it is also bears thinking about, have you got much clearance with your 2.2 tyres now? What make are they because different manufactures come up different.

For example i use a 2.35 upfront which comes up big, then i have a 2.4 on the rear which comes up smaller, (different makes WTB front, Schwable rear) i run 27.5" Halo Vapour 35's which are 35mm wide, 32mm internal width.

When i was racing XC i would use a 28mm rim and 1.8-2.2" tyres.

The wheels are the ones that come with the bike, whyte xc 27.5 x 2.2, so assumed that was the width. tires are maxis ikon they are 2.2. Wouldn't say clearance was massive

Then I wouldn't go more than a 2.3 on the rear but front you could still go up to a 2.4. ikons are OK in the dry and usually quite hard but roll OK.
Come winter you'll want something with wide nobbles and softer rubber.

They surprised me to be honest, I got them as a stop gap until I bought a new set of light-bicycle carbon ones. I haven't wanted the carbon ones as they work out lighter than expected and the super halo hubs roll better than any other hubs I've had and I really rate the Novatech ones I've got on my 29er.
