Hey everyone!,

Im looking for a single speed bike.

Something like the Create bikes, but anything goes (refer to image).

If anyone has a bike like these which they dont use/is in storage etc. and are willing to sell (maximum budget £100), please let me know! :)

Many thanks in advance,

Akif

P.S. Bike will most probably be second hand for my budget, not looking for anything special! :)

Build one, single speed is the perfect place to start!

Hi Akif,
Ive got a singlespeed retro rockhopper, I think the frame is early 90's.
Its in good nick considering its age, Ive been using it as a pub bike.
Its not complete however, you'll need wheels (currently shared with another bike), the rear brake cable needs replacing although it works.
You can have it for £50.
Let me know if you interested and Ill get some pics/better description to you.

Cheap wheels and tyres;

(need some spacers/single sprocket in place of a cassette for the rear wheel though)

Hi Akif,
if youve not got wheels sorted, i saw some 26'' mtb ones in decathlon, £20 each end for front and rear, seemed light but I would want to go jumping on em but might be ok for commuting. Its next to canada water tube if youre interested

Hey Chris,

Funnily enough, I've been searching for a budget set for some time. The main problem I've found is the restriction of what wheels can be used.

They have to be 26" but have a freehub as its very difficult to find cheap 26" single speed wheels. The convertor from cassette to single speed is great, but I haven't got a V-brake only set of wheels which have a freehub.

The wheels you suggested from decathlon are freewheel attachment and im not sure if theyre set for single speed.

Thoughts?

Yep the 19.99 wheels are screw on 7-8 speed cassetes you need a 9-10 speed hubs, the slightly more expensive ones fit the bill, worth going down to the store though as they have been known to accept the odd haggle from us MTB types ;)

I think I might just try n get some second hand wheels rather than new. The bike will be used for commuting to london. I don't want to have to worry about it getting nicked so want it to look quite 'used' :P
