A wicked weekend of riding

Great first day over in Les gets. Not dry but not wet and we found some new trails. It was all flowing so well. We also managed to run the les gets park black run top to bottom including the new ladder.

The 2nd day was a bit of an epic. With a forecast of heavy rain late in the day we thought it would be a great idea to go all the way over to Champéry to ride the steepest most knarly race track in the world!

I have no idea what we were thinking!!! We rode the swiss national on the way out and apart from one stack all was good. Upon getting on the Champéry track it was still wet from previous days rain and was the steepest, rootyest thing ive ever ridden / slid down... just insane in places. We saw one other rider on it the whole time we were there. Catch netting was everywhere and once you stacked you just kept rolling faster and faster. We had almost made it to the end when sir crashalot - Joel sliced himself open on a tooth shaped rock. The weather started to close in and from that point on it was just a case of getting home - which involved getting soaked through, running into 200 sheep, picking our way down the side of a valley on a walkers trail which was more like a trials course, and doing part of the tour de france route. I was teeth chattering cold for the last hour... lord know how Joel made it as he must have lost a load of blood.....mental day.

The last day was bonkers wet so we kept it local in Morzine and again found a load of fresh trails we had never ridden. By that time we had gotten used to the mud and it was starting to become really good fun as we slid everywhere. We all had epic stacks apart from Matt on his maxxis wet screams

Good times fellas - it was too wet to take many pics but what we have are over here http://essexhertsmtb.co.uk/php/flogr/in ... 4623167289 and we will sort out the vid in a bit.

Nice write up sir moob-a-lot. Was a good trip and definitely be back to tackle the full champery course without being stabbed! Reckon I lost nearly a pint of blood given the soakage on the clothes. Lucky not to pass out on the final 11km road descent back. Some here have called it foolish but I prefer the term epic. Off work all week as walking is actually getting more painful as bruising emerges and stitches do their work.

Now to rebuild the bike after the flight and get ready for the aston race in 3 weeks

Sir crash-a-lot.

Wicked weekend, and good to see you guys, nice write up Jon.

Champery was just nuts, nice to say we've been there, sort of done it, but wouldn't rush back without a serious skill level/testical size increase, some sections just seemed unridable... Unless it was bone dry, that might be worth a crack.
The sheep trail back was great fun, have to hit that up again in good weather, beats the bike destroyer fire road home anyday!
Wet Screams??? Nah that was just mad skillz ;) They were pretty good to be fair, pleased I had them with me. Not had any other chances to use them since picking them up at FoD, feels like cheating in a way!

Hope you get fixed up soon Joel, cheers for the loan of the brake, I have one sitting back home waiting to be collected this weekend.

Yeah they work really well when it's properly wet, stops it getting thrown up infront of your face to ride into.

Sounds like you had a great (but muddy time) looks like you would need a few bottles of muc off after the Champéry track

Cant wait to see the video

Had a great trip. Great wet riding out there (my new favorite thing!)
Champery track is indeed ridiculous! was great to try and ride it though, looking forward to the vids!

alfine and tubs held up well, only thing i would change for next time would be to take some wet tyres, very funny moment when mat is following me and my minion front just gives up! mat had so much grip with the wet screams he managed not to ride over me!

will be looking to go for a week next year, just cant get enough of the mountain air.

Was that from your tumble of doom Tom? Anyone seen those pics in Dirt of Champery - there is a great pic of that really steep corner. Gotta ride that again next year.

Only just seen this thread - some real Epping-esque conditions out there. You'll be moaning that Cwmcarn is too easy now!

I used to be a lot like you but now I'm only me
