O rally wanted to do the BHF one but didn't fancy doing it on my own as my mates weren't interested. When you thinking at the moment Sept/Oct?

Yes thats about the right timeframe, took me 9 3/4 hrs last time but we got lost for 2 hrs.

I assume you meant pint or two ;)

I have done it about 5 times now and know the route pretty well. I got the gpx route, but its very easy! Just gotta follow the "downs way".

7 hours is a strong pace, 8-9 hours if you wanna have lunch and enjoy it.

A good sunny day soon suits me!

Train back is the easiest.

This is the last one I did. I rode from my house in South Woodford.

Yea i'm not interested in doing the BHF one.. just that they happen to have one end of Sept, just coincidence there

I'm really throwing this out to all (yes ferretgitl, girls as well  ) to see what interest we got.

So if a few are interested then we could start looking at dates, route and timings etc needed. probably be looking at between 7 to 8 hrs of riding... maybe. then an ice cream cone on beach in Brighton and the train/Car home??

That sounds better

My dates available are: 4th,11th and 25th September. 9th and 23rd October. 9th October is also Dusk til Dawn 12h enduro and thinking of doing it in pairs with a volunteer :D We'll see

Clay has a route i believe, but how you planning on getting back?

are you looking to do the same route that the BHF off road event follows?
I've only done the on road one,i tried it to see if i could do it after my heart attack . We did 3 years on the trot from 08 but we didn't bother this year as we got bored with it and it can be a logistical nightmare starting at clapham common and finishing in brighton. we got the time down to 4 hrs, not bad on a full susser. fleeced a few skinny lyrca clad roadies on the long descents, 40mph+ and the joys of disk brakes!
some of the routes in MBR mag for the south downs and surrounding areas look good.
we could try and do the whole south downs way in one day? but again your looking at a long way between start and finishes another pain unless we ride back the following day? 200 mile round trip i think? Now that would be a character builder?

I would be up for the same route again.

Was a lot of pain last time but I think with some training I could enjoy it more!

Noel noted above the route he took which I believe is the same as the BHF use. We could arrange to meet up nearer the start or ride across town to the start, as most I believe come from the east side of London area( Liverpool St station side). Use the new cycle lanes to dodge the traffic before the start. As the nights will start to draw in now so would like to kick off for an as earlier start as possible in the morning

The wife is due to go into hospital soon for a major op, so this will put me on butler duties, daughter school and horse mucking out duties for a few weeks so hope her appointment comes end of October?? If not it may rule me out of Sept dates :-( until I know...??

So some Possible dates are:

Sunday 25th Sept
( have a race on 18th Sept)
Sunday 2nd Oct

Yes Chatman,my route is the BHF route. Its fairly straight forward route. Not technical but still a good day out if we get a few of us! I have a route that starts at Roehampton University, which is 70 miles.

Tranny, Paul and I did it last year, but the weather was horrific! This time it would be good to stay dry!!

I'm unfortunately working 25th Sept and it's my Neice's and Nephew Christenings on 2nd Oct. I'll probably have to give it a miss too.

These dates where just the first stab at it.

Oct time is generally wetter, so we'll have to see what other dates come up.

Is it a short notice to do it this weekend? How about 11th September? The weather, so far, is good.

I've been trying to get out on my bike and have done about 60k this week, total riding time of about 5.5hrs. Not sure if I'm ready for a 70 miler in one day yet. And I'm having real trouble with hills too!
