Good morning all :-)

I should be taking delivery of a 2nd hand Spesh Pitch frame today and have almost everything that I can transfer over from my current ride except for forks with sufficient travel (one of the reasons for the upgrade). I've got a set of U-Turn Revelations on my current ride and love them but they're only 100/130.

So, I'm after a set of 150-160 forks. U-turn would be great as I do a lot of XC and being able to wind them down for the likes of the Wales trail centres climbs would also help.

Cheers,
Ev

This may be a silly question but....When you say damped, what do you mean?

I know I have the choice to make between Air & Coil.. I'm not sure on this.. I'd like the simplicity of Coil but seeing as I ride a lot of XC then this would point to Air for plushness?

Air is the way to go if you are using the bike for a bit of everything (like me) as you can set it up for the riding that you are doing for the day (Softer for xc and then use lock out for climbing, harder for dh to stop the fork bottoming out on heavier hits ect). In all honesty i just leave mine at the one setting for both (prefer it a light be stiffer than i could get away with) but at least its set up perfectly for my weight.

As i said come and have a go of mine if you want, should be over Danbury thursday night if you want a try.

The amount of air only affects the sag the correct coil will do the same then all your settings depending on the quality of the fork will tailor your ride to the conditions. Coil is heavier but then air can blow out on heavy hits. Coil is more linear through the stroke but some like the way air ramps up so it's horses for courses. Just spend some time getting them Dialled in to your riding or you'll regret it.

I've got some Fox 36 talas jobbies, 130-160mm travel, from 2007/2008. They're a bit rough around the edges (stantions are fine though), and really need a service and new seals. I keep changing my mind between selling them off cheaply and giving them a total overhaul and keeping them. Are they of any interest to you?

Also do your revelations have a 20mm axle? If so I might be interested in a part-ex deal.

Cheers Matt & Jon :-)

Chris, let me know what you'd need for them as I've got a couple of options I'm looking at. Are they 9/15qr or 20 bolt?

My Revelations are standard qr

Damped means with damping
Motion control more specifically

I used the u-turn 115-160mm with a motion control cartridge and they were excellent

Hi,
On the subject of shocks.

I am always playing with the front set up.

I do things to it and then all hell lets loose.
I am slowly learning to set it and leave it.
Worse is when I do something and the front is always off the ground cause hell with the stearing.
Then when I am going over the bumpy bits at other times it is vibrating through my hands.
Once I even bottomed out with a bang and I am sure I did not do it deliberately and My underwear was changed imediately.
All in all I come to the decsion on on- off and leave it alone.
Like a bra I should go and get fitted up and then I might be comfortable.

Jon's description of coil and air, is spot on, air or coil is personal choice. Essentially coil gives you a very linear feel, the shocks compress and rebound equally and smoothly, ie. it requries the same amount of pressure to move the shock at any point along its stroke. Air springs require more pressure to move at different points in the stroke. Air require more pressure towards the end of the travel stroke to prevent bottoming out. ie, they are progressive along the stroke requiring more force to move the last mm of travel than the first few mm.

There are two types of damping, rebound and compression damping. Rebound damping controls how quickly the fork pushes back after a hit. compression damping is how quick the fork descends, this what people mean by plushness and how stiff the fork is.

Coil both ends for me, dont care how long it takes to get uphill, its coming down that counts ;)

Hi mate, decided to sell off the bits that I was going to build up, so i'd be looking for a straight sale rather than a swap.

They axle is 20mm. The last set of these I sold went for £225, I reckon there's a service and seals needed (knock off £50), the allen key hole on the axle is a bit messy, and there are a few paint chips... I'd be looking for about £150?
